There are many niches on Aetherius for your characters to fill, and below are some suggestions to either help you if you're having trouble coming up with a character, or are simply trying to place an already-created character into a position of some sort!
- Aequitas needs members: it accepts lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, and recently cougars-- they consider these to be the only cats strong enough to truly exemplify what the group stands for. You might play a huntress, a cub yearning to become a warrior, a teacher, or perhaps a seasoned fighter in the imperator's favour.
- Aduro Aurum accepts all species, it being a city rather than a specific group, but animals who do not wish to use valui are not likely to be accepted there: to be without a valui is to be without the favor of the Goddess.
- Scholars, priests, and guards are other ideas. Scholars in Aduro Aurum study many things: natural history, history of the city, magic. Most accept and encourage belief in the history presented by the temple-- any who don't had best keep it quiet. While some scholars prefer to keep to their own circles, others lecture in the streets, and many take on students as well.
- Speaking of scholars, in addition to those loyal to the temple, there are some who don't believe in its doctrines. They are known as dissident scholars and tend to keep a very low profile, as they are likely to be executed for heresy if they're too vocal about their opinions.
- Priests are, of course, terribly important as well-- in a sense, they control the city. The temple of Akasha began as a religious institution, but over the centuries it has become an impressive political power, as much so if not more influential than the palace. While many priests truly believe the teachings and join the priesthood because they want to devote their lives to the Goddess, others join for the power the institution represents, or become power-hungry. It is a political position, after all! We currently need priests of all levels of importance and of all aims: scheming or otherwise! All are important.
- Guards are another important need for the city: we currently have high-ranking positions open, although please remember that it's no fun leading if you've got no-one to lead! See @groups Aduro Aurum for more information on the military hierarchy of the city, and if you wish to play a high-ranking character, please contact a wizard.
- Criminals! The guard needs some bad guys to go after. Keep in mind that just as not all priests are scheming are power-mad (and indeed many are NOT), not all criminals are necessarily out-and-out evil. Indeed, many aren't! Some are driven to do what they do by necessity, others because it's all they know, and of course, others by greed or selfishness: but keep in mind that there are very few people who are entirely no-good in real life. Why not someone who murders for his superior but also has a mate and cubs whom he loves, and would do anything to protect? Or a thief who adores the things she steals and also works as a servant for the priesthood, stealing from the priests she believes abuse their power?
- Servants of all ranks, from gardeners and court healers to the personal servants of the royalty: there's a whole other hierachy within the servant-class that, likely, the royalty don't know about-- beyond the fact that it might be acceptable for a young lady to befriend her lady-in-waiting but -never- to chat with the little squirrel-monkey maid who brings her dinner.
- Nobility of all ranks, from the sister to the queen to a distant cousin.
- Librarians are needed as well: they guard the palace's huge library as though it is their own territory, and in some ways it -is-. Many of the librarians don't even know the whole of the writings the building holds, and as they raise through the ranks of book-keepers they tend to specialize, territories within territories. Woe to the biography-specialist who touches a scroll containing herbal lore without permission-- much less enters the flora section. of course, the librarians have their own ways of keeping track of what goes where, and most who enter the library require the help and goodwill of its keeper to find -anything- they're looking for. Librarians need about all to be able to reach all levels of the stacks-- although, again, given the way they tend to specialize, this isn't necessary. However, most librarians are nimble and can climb or fly: primates, those with the power of telekinesis, and certain birds might make good librarians. The library -does- extend belowground, however, so it's not impossible for non-climbers.
- Outcasts, trackers, miners and street urchins are just a few other examples of the many types of characters you might want to play here! If you still need help, by all means talk to the wizzes-- they'll be happy to assist you!
